“To some he is just the guy on the postcard. A face on the wall from a bygone era. But if you only see the picture, you may miss the giant behind it.”
Trinidad · The Early Years
Harry was always running, but not for fun. The eldest child of two cane field workers, he would sprint down the dusty Trinidad roads to reach the village shop before closing. Racing for a single block of butter so his mother could feed his seven younger siblings hot roti for dinner.
The Priest & The Promise
His brilliant mind couldn't be hidden by the dust of the cane fields. An Irish priest saw his potential and offered a free education on one condition: Harry had to pay it back by teaching for two years after graduation. This is where he met his wife. Our mother. Radica.
Love Over Ambition
When the London School of Economics offered him a ticket to a glittering global future, Harry chose love over ambition.
With an alcoholic father unable to carry the household, Harry turned it down. He stayed in Trinidad to lift his mother and siblings on his shoulders.
The Builder
A shrewd businessman, he built a garment factory from the ground up. He raised us in the rhythm of that factory life, giving us a beautifully contradictory childhood. The privilege of private schools mixed with the grounded joy of a simple, barefoot life.
How He Lived
He never lectured us on integrity, compassion, or empathy. He simply lived it. We saw it in how he treated his employees, how he carried his family, and most vividly, how he cooked.
So Who Is Harry?
He is our champion. He is the man who turned hardship into a beautiful, vibrant art form.
Thank you Daddy. Thank you for the grit and the fierce resilience you wove directly into our DNA. Thank you for the unconditional love that still wraps around us, and for the way you continue to look over the family you built.
